- **Event Description**: At 1pm on Saturday December 13th, Inscape Collective hosts the Rockford Reader's Theatre, directed by Dorothy Paige-Turner, in the Community Room adjacent to the store. The program includes a variety of songs, stories, and spoken-word accounts of the history and origins of family celebrations of the non-religious Kwanzaa holiday. Kwanzaa is a seven-day candle-lighting ritual that takes place annually from December 26th to January 1st.  It combines elements of African culture and African-American experience to provide a framework for for instilling strong family and community values. The performance will include a coral reading of "Amazing Peace" - a resonant poem by Maya Angelou that tells the simple story of a family who join with their community - rich and poor, black and white, people of all faiths - to celebrate the holidays. The very talented performers include George Davis, Jacquelyn Rogers, Coleen Martin-Williams, Wendell Thompson, Carl Towns, and Janet Wright. Attendance is limited to 50 listeners on a first-come-first-served basis. The store is open from 11am to 4pm, so arrive early, claim your seat, and shop great merchandise. Or shop after the concert. Admission is free.; musicians are paid by audience donations. $10 suggested minimum. This event is sponsored by Inscape Collective and Supported by Rockford Urban Ministries.
