Info: Dr. Linda Saborio, Northern Illinois University Department Chair of World Languages and Cultures, will enlighten us with a perspective of the emerging “chica moderna” from the perspective of gender history and the role of artistic expressions in the formation of new Mexican national and social identities in the early 20th century. This will be followed by a close examination of Frida’s works and her influence on our understandings of political ideologies and women’s roles in Mexico following the Mexican Revolution of 1910.
