- **Event Name**: "African Americans in Early Rockford (1934-1871)" Summer Lecture
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 28 Jun, 2026 at 02:00 pm – Sun, 28 Jun, 2026 at 04:00 pm
- **Event Description**: As part of our America250 celebrations, Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum's Summer Lecture series will be based on early Rockfordians and the community that helped to build our country.

Join us in welcoming local historian Amanda Becker for this next installment of our lecture series. "Early African Americans in Rockford" is based on the research of Dr. John Molyneaux and his recently released second edition of his book on Early African Americans in Rockford.

Lewis Lemon is well known as a co-founder of Rockford...but there were many other influential African Americans in Rockford, such as businessman Isaac Wilson, barbers Reuben Armstrong & the James Williams families, the Anna Williams trial, and the attempted lynching of an African American man at the courthouse. Without this research, the story of early Rockford would not be complete.

This event takes place in the lower level of the Barn on Sunday, June 28th from 2-4pm.

Tickets are $10/non-members, $5/members.
