                "description": "Winthrop's choral program is outstanding and engaging, with ensembles suitable for all levels of musical ability. The Chorale, the Department of Music's main touring chorus, is comprised of outstanding undergraduate and graduate students, with more than half of them majoring or minoring in music. The Chorale has performed at state and Southern Division conferences of the American Choral Directors Association, as well as the South Carolina Music Educators Association. In Gaillard Auditorium, the ensemble recorded Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra and performed a Leonard Bernstein tribute with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. The Chamber Singers are a small group of fifteen to twenty singers who specialize in Renaissance and twentieth-century a cappella and chamber music. This choir's members have performed in high school, college, or church choirs and are skilled music readers. The group was just named third in the 2022 American Prize in Choral Performance—college/university division (smaller program). The American Prize National Nonprofit Competitions in the Performing Arts is the largest series of performing arts competitions in the country. The Collegiate Choir is a large concert choir of mixed voices. The repertoire spans in difficulty from beginner to expert; nonetheless, fundamental skills such as vocal technique, music reading, and musicianship are stressed."
