Richard Band is a native of Spartanburg, SC and a graduate of Furman University and the University of South Carolina. He started writing poems after retiring as director of the Lancaster County Library in 2013. He has published in a variety of literary magazines and anthologies, including Kakalak and South Carolina Review.  In 2024 he self-published a collection of poems, Solitary Stars. In 2025 Band was awarded the Forum Prize from the Poetry Society of South Carolina for his poem, Naming the Stars. He co-founded the Lancaster County Writers Group which holds readings at the Daily Grind Coffee Shop in Lancaster. 


Mary E. Martin is a poet, dancer, retired Winthrop University professor. She grew up in the west and the south, preferring the rich landscape of the south. She explores a fusion of text, movement, and music in community performance projects she has developed in the Carolinas. Her poetry has appeared in many journals, including The Kansas Quarterly, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and The Southern Poetry Review.
