Lester Barrett is well known and loved at the Mainstay and beyond. He is best known for his work with the acapella trio Sombarkin', singing blues, jazz, gospel, and soul. Lester has been a frequent guest of Joe's series' throughout the years, inspiring audiences every time.
Augustine Mercante, from Wilmington DE, will be making his premier appearance at The Mainstay. Described by The New York Times as a "glowing countertenor," Gus enjoys an active career, singing repertoire from the Baroque to the newly created, performing throughout the greater region, the country, and the world.
We are most delighted to welcome Gus to The Mainstay stage to join Lester in a program that Joe has titled, "Clash of the Countertenors." Spoiler alert - although Gus and Lester may represent diverse backgrounds and cultures, we quickly find common ground in diversity when we reach out to hold hands across the perceived divide.
