- **Event Description**: Please join the Irondequoit Historical Society and the Irondequoit Public Library on Thursday, November 6th, as we welcome Sister Barbara Lum.  Sister Barbara is actively involved in a drop-in ministry program, serving neighbors that may be homeless, or suffering from mental illness and/or addiction.

During her presentation, Sister Barbara will talk about her service in Selma, Alabama, from 1958-1968.  She was involved in helping to run the only hospital that would treat Black people from several surrounding counties. The Good Samaritan Sisters and staff also cared for those that were beaten by state troopers and sheriff’s deputies interrupting the march for voting rights on Bloody Sunday, March 7, 1965.  The Sisters also ran a school for practical nursing and an elementary school for grades one through eight.Organizations in the North sent books and medicines to help make all of this possible.
 
This event will be held at 7:00 PM in a first-floor meeting room of the Irondequoit Public Library, 1290 Titus Ave, 14617. The program is free and open to the public.
