Local Color explores the racialized histories and cultural politics of Blackness in Veracruz, Mexico, offering a powerful meditation on Afro-Mexican identity, colonial legacies, and the aesthetics of resistance. Through archival research, ethnography, and visual analysis, Frierson examines how Blackness is remembered, performed, and contested in a port city shaped by transnational flows and local reckonings.
