CLOSED for The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God

We will be closed on Monday, January 1st for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. St. James Coffee is closed on all Holy Days of Obligation that the Catholic Church recognizes throughout the year. It is why we always closed on Sundays as well! If you are Catholic, remember you are obligated to go to Mass today :-)

The Solemnity celebrates Mary's title as "God-bearer," or Theotokos, a doctrine officially recognized at the Council of Ephesus in 431 A.D. very early in the Church.
It highlights Mary's role in the Incarnation of Christ and her importance to all who are saved.
The Solemnity falls within the octave of Christmas, emphasizing the deep connection between Mary's role and the birth of Jesus.

Luke 1:38
"I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word."
This affirmation is her humble acceptance of God's plan and her role in it. She models perfectly how we should approach God in humility and do our best to accept his will for us and attempt to align our heart to his.
