We have received an outpouring of donations, both monetary and food, diapers, and other necessities, for the families who now need help because they were targeted by ICE.Now Riverside city councilwoman Clarissa Cervantes has partnered with Cellar Door to bring MacArthur Fellowship winner Kelly Lytle Hernández to Riverside for a very special discussion about her latest book, Racist by Design: Two Centuries of U.S. Immigration Control, on Saturday, October 10th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Bordwell Park. A few years ago, we hosted Kelly Lytle Hernández at our first store location to discuss her book Bad Mexicans and there wasn't even standing room left. When we found out Kelly would return to talk about Racist by Design, we called Councilwoman Cervantes, who has been instrumental in leading the community in our fight to protect families. We decided to move this event to a bigger venue, and bring in the groups that are making a difference taking care of the affected families who've been targeted by ICE.Eddie Torres and Benjamin Wood from IC4IJ (Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice) will be in-conversation with Kelly Lytle Hernández about her new book and the impact it can have in our fight for justice. Joining us at Bordwell Park will be Riverside Migra Watch/We Keep Us Safe, CHIRLA (Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights), and UCR's Center for Ideas and Society. If you're looking for a way to help, these organizations will be at the event to guide you.Tickets are free and we will have books for sale at the event, but if you want to guarantee you will get a copy, please purchase the book bundle here. You will be able to pick up your book either at the event or at the store prior to the event.
