It is a continuation of a movement that centers Black joy, liberation, and collective power in the outdoors."Chicago BIPOC Birders Flyways & Freedom at Whistler Woods on May 24th to gather, breathe and celebrate community and shared history by connecting with the earth, the birds, and our people. We invite you to join us for a sunset acoustic ecology walk, take in the sounds of nature, birds, the river and community. You'll learn something new, have fun, and build memories.Site Info: Whistler Woods is 137-acres forest preserve hosting oak trees that are up to 300 years old and situated on the African American Heritage Water Trail and the unceded homelands of the Council of Three Fires: The Ojibwe, Ottawa, and the Potawatomi.This event is immediately adjacent to a paved parking lot, bike trail or road. The paved pedestrian and bike trail is relatively flat with a couple minor slopes. There are no restrooms or running water onsite but there is a porta-potty in the parking area.Transportation: There are public transit options nearby, and ample free parking spots throughout the preserve. Need a ride or willing to offer one to another attendee? Join the Slack group to coordinate a carpool!Attire: Be sure to bring water and dress appropriately for the weather and activity for your comfort and safety.Seating: There are 3 picnic tables adjacent approximately 100 feet from the parking lot. There are not benches available throughout the trail.
