Do you wonder what to do if you encounter bears or an aggressive dog on your hike? Ever get confused at trail intersections? Do you hike alone and need to head out better prepared, but you’re not sure how? We’ll go over all this and more plus we’ll put it into action with a 2.5-mile fun hike to a beautiful viewpoint.

It’s everyone’s worst nightmare to have something go wrong on a hike. However, most issues can be prevented by heading out with a little knowledge and a good plan. In this course, we’ll be covering a variety of topics, but they all boil down to improving our knowledge base and safety. We’ll go over what to do for specific animal encounters - and not just for bears. We discuss snakes, ticks, coyotes, and even if someone's pet dog gets aggressive toward you or your dog. We'll also teach you how to identify hazardous plants and how to spot the signs that inclement weather is on the way. You will be more confident in deciding when you can keep going and when you should cut a hike short and turn around. All in all, this class covers the important things to consider before you leave for your hike and also tackles how to handle anything should it pop up. The easy-level hike is about 2.5 miles and about 500’ of elevation.Minimum Age: 8 years old - the minor(s) and a parent/guardian must all be paid registered participants.
