Yefim Bronfman: “Titan of the Piano”
On March 5, at the Congress Hall in Riga, one of the greatest pianists of our time will appear before the public. A GRAMMY Award winner, recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize, and a musician whose name stands alongside the world’s most eminent artists — Yefim Bronfman.
Born in Tashkent, he emigrated to Israel at the age of fifteen to study with Arie Vardi, and later continued his education in the United States under legendary masters Rudolf Firkusny, Leon Fleisher, and Rudolf Serkin.
Today, Bronfman is an artist whose performances are celebrated events on the world’s leading stages — from Carnegie Hall to Salzburg, from London to Tokyo, from Berlin to Sydney.
The Chicago Sun-Times wrote of him: “What more needs to be said about this titan of the piano whose playing exhibits all the elements — humor, playfulness, roguishness, nobility, and passion — of Beethoven’s sonatas.”
Critics are unanimous: he is a pianist who combines “thunderous power and crystalline clarity” (The New York Times), whose playing “dazzles with drama and scale” (The Guardian), and in whose interpretations “every phrase becomes a journey into the depths of music” (Le Monde).
His discography includes the complete Prokofiev concertos with the Israel Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta, Bartók with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Los Angeles Philharmonic (a GRAMMY-winning recording), as well as Beethoven, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, and Lindberg. His performances with the Vienna Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra are preserved on DVD and Blu-ray.
In the 2025/2026 season, Bronfman embarks on an extensive tour across Asia, Europe, and North America, including concerts with the Israel Philharmonic, the Montreal Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, and a chamber music project with Anne-Sophie Mutter and Pablo Ferrández.
Yefim Bronfman — “a pianist to whom all summits are open” — will offer Riga’s audience a rare opportunity to experience his artistry live on March 5.
