The seminar will include, sword & cape, dagger, and, of course, tomahawk & bowie knife! We will provide all the equipment you need. Just come with some training clothes and ready for some fun. :) Not every weapon on the fencing field is a sword—and sometimes the most interesting ones are the unexpected ones. This workshop explores three distinctive weapon systems from different historical traditions, all connected by the same core martial principles: timing, measure, control, and adaptability. Open to all experience levels. Sword & Cape Learn how the humble cape becomes a surprisingly effective off-hand tool. Historical fencing masters used it for defense, deception, entangling weapons, and creating openings—while looking fabulous. Equipment: sidesword (rapier/smallsword welcome), mask, gloves, chest protection, cape/towel/hoodie. Dagger: Armizare Explore dagger combat from Fiore dei Liberi’s Armizare. We’ll look at defending against dagger attacks empty-handed and responding dagger-to-dagger, building on the mechanics of Fiore’s grappling system. Equipment: training dagger, soft gloves with long cuffs, comfortable clothing. Tomahawk & Bowie Knife Two iconic 18th–19th century weapons that reward good structure, timing, and adaptability. We’ll explore their historical context and practical use both individually and as a pair. Equipment: mask, light gloves, training tomahawk and Bowie (if you have them). More about Emilia: Emilia has trained how to hit people with swords and other objects for more than 20 years. During that time she has studied multiple weapons, systems, and in multiple different clubs, starting in Poland and then moving to London and Oxford. She has won medals in both women as well as open competitions both in the UK and abroad, fighting with longsword, rapier, rapier and dagger, saber, sidesword, and sidesword and buckler. She was also voted best technical fencer of By the Sword 2019. Emilia travelled around Europe leading workshops and seminars and was one of the representatives for the UK and Ireland HEMA team in the European Games taking place in Minsk in 2019. She is a member of the organising committes for the Wessex League, and Albion Cup, the biggest international competition in the UK. She also organised English Sidesword Open In Oxford in 2018. Currently she is the head instructor for the Oxford Chapter of The School of the Sword.
