26. februārī, 19.00, Baltic Analog Lab un festivāls Skaņu Mežs aicina uz filmu skrīningu, skaņas performanci un tikšanos ar februāra rezidentiem Charlotte Parr-Burman (UK), Syd Farrington (UK) and Nate Scheible (USA).

Charlotte Parr-Burman ir britu grafiķe no Londonas, kura strādā ar kokgrebumu, analogo fotogrāfiju un šķidrās fotoemulsijas pārnesumiem. 2023. gadā viņa ieguvusi maģistra grādu Central Saint Martins universitātē. Viņas darbi apvieno analogo fotogrāfiju ar reduktīvās grafikas tehniku. Māksliniece pārnes savus 35 mm fotouzņēmumus uz finiera plāksnēm, grebjot tajās slāņainas, meditatīvas grafikas, kas no jauna iezīmē nepamanītās detaļas. Rezidences laikā viņa testēja metodes, kā apvienot vairākus attēlus vienā kompozīcijā uz finiera, ar ieceri pēc atgriešanās Londonā šos darbus iegrebt kokgriezuma grafikās.
Prezentācijā viņa demonstrēs darbu izlasi, kurā izmantotas fotogrāfijas no viņas arhīva, kā arī jaunākie darbi, kas tapuši Rīgā. 

Syd Farrington ir mākslinieks un filmu veidotājs no Londonas. Darbā ar filmu viņa prakse bieži pievēršas mūsdienu kapitālisma fiziskajai ietekmei uz mainīgām ainavām. Sids ieguvis maģistra grādu Londonas Goldsmita universitātē. Viņa jaunākie darbi demonstrēti International Film Festival Rotterdam, London Short Film Festival, Rencontres Internationales Paris un The Selected 14 (Film London) seansu tūrē. Rezidences laikā viņš turpināja montāžas darbu pie sava ilgtermiņa filmu projekta, kura centrā ir Temza un "mudlarking" jeb vēsturisku priekšmetu meklēšana upes dubļos. Nate Scheible ir Vašingtonā, DC, bāzēts amerikāņu mūziķis, kurš pēdējo divdesmit gadu laikā ir uzstājies un izdevis ierakstus gan solo, gan dažādu ansambļu sastāvā. Viņš ir bundzinieks un perkusionists improvizācijā, kā arī strādā ar magnētisko lenšu kompozīcijām un ir epizodisks noise un pankroka grupu dalībnieks. Neita darbi izdoti ierakstu izdevniecībās Warm Winters, Outside Time, Unifactor un Feeding Tube. Pasākumā Neits uzstāsies izmantojot 5U modulāro sintezatoru, pētot fīdbeku, starpmodulāciju, disonansi un fāzējumu kombinācijā ar dzīvajām lentes cilpām. Dzirdēsim arī lenšu kolāžu, kurā izmantots rezidences laikā Rīgā ierakstīts materiāls.

On February 26, at 19.00, Baltic Analog Lab and Skaņu Mežs invite you to a film screening, sound performance and artist talks by February artists-in-residence: Charlotte Parr-Burman (UK), Syd Farrington (UK) and Nate Scheible (USA).

Charlotte Parr-Burman is a London-based woodcut printmaker working with analogue photography and liquid-emulsion transfers. She holds an MA from Central Saint Martins (2023). Her work bridges analogue photography and reductive printmaking. She transfers her own 35mm images onto plywood, carving them into layered, meditative prints that reframe overlooked moments in the built environment. While in Riga, Charlotte focused on analogue transfers to plywood using photo-emulsion. She will present a collection of works using photographs from her archive and new work captured around Riga. She has been testing and experimenting with methods of combining several images together into compositions on plywood, with the intention of carving these works into woodcut prints on her return to London. 

Syd Farrington is an artist and filmmaker living and working in London. Working with film, his practice often explores the physical effect of contemporary capitalism on changing landscapes and our relationship to them. Recent work has been shown at International Film Festival Rotterdam, London Short Film Festival, Rencontres Internationales Paris and The Selected 14 (Film London) screening tour. In 2023 He graduated with an MA in Artists’ Film and Moving Image from Goldsmiths, University of London. During his residency at Baltic Analog Lab he has been editing a long term film project that takes the river Thames and mudlarking as its starting point, as well as examining the variance in landscape surrounding Riga, collecting images and field recordings and following changes in daylight. During the screening, He will present some of his most recent films as well as some hand processed, work-in-progress 16mm projections made at BAL. 

Nate Scheible is a Washington, DC based artist who has performed and recorded both solo and in a variety of ensembles over the past two decades. His background is largely based in improvisation on percussion, composition using magnetic tape processes, and the occasional noise or punk band. Nate’s work is featured on the labels Warm Winters, Outside Time, Unifactor, and Feeding Tube. In his presentation you will hear a live piece performed primarily on the lab’s 5U modular synth that explores feedback, cross-modulation, dissonance, and phasing in conjunction with live tape loops. He will also present a tape collage using material recorded while in residence and about town in Riga.

The event will take place in the Baltic Analog Lab 2nd-floor residence rooms, Lienes iela 19a.
