Civic Life is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening citizenship in communities across the nation, offering Americans a chance to engage in civic renewal.In this acting workshop, participants are offered an immersive introduction to the principles of acting and an opportunity to join an educational discussion on influential speeches, letters, or archived materials. Participants will learn to craft original monologues rooted in personal stories around a guiding question. Then they will pass their unique experiences along to their classmates and be assigned a monologue to perform. Embodying experiences different from our own is highly encouraged in this workshop and participants will emerge with an empathetic understanding and appreciation for a diversity of experiences.No prior acting experience is required! Bring your sense of play, imagination, and creativity as we explore ensemble work, read together, and answer the question 'What is an American?'. Exploring the use of acting methods to craft meaningful monologues, we will authentically communicate our classmates lived experiences as Americans through memoir.Registration Details: Registration for this workshop will be open until January 7th.Class location: St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Main HallThis is an 8-hour workshop with a 1 hour lunch break.
