Interested in soil-less systems? Become an urban grower with the knowledge and tools needed to operate and maintain soil-less agriculture!

About this Event

This workshop series aims to provide interested urban growers with the knowledge and tools needed to operate and maintain soil-less agriculture systems in an urban greenhouse. Each workshop will cover season-specific topics. Participants can sign up for individual workshops or for the entire series. Dress accordingly to spend time outside and for greenhouse tours and activities.

October 2023: Introduction to Hydroponics in an Urban Space

Date: Friday, October 20th

Time: 9 am - 10:30 am

Description: This workshop will offer a tour of the P.R. Harris hydroponics greenhouses as well as an introduction to how soil-less agriculture works, particularly in an urban setting.

You will learn:

The components of a hydroponics system

• What types of crops can be grown hydroponically

• How soil-less agriculture fits into the urban environment


November 2023: Winterizing an Urban Greenhouse

Date: Monday, November 6th

Time: 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Description: This workshop will contain a tour of the P.R. Harris hydroponics systems as well as a demonstration of how to prepare a greenhouse for winter conditions. This workshop will educate participants on the specific needs of soil-less growers when it comes to operating a system in cooler climates.

You will learn:

• The basic components of a hydroponics system

• Crop growth in colder temperatures

• System adaptations needed to run successful systems throughout the winter

December 2023: Winterizing an Urban Greenhouse

Date: Thursday, December 7th

Time: 10 am - 11:30 am

Description: This workshop will contain a tour of the P.R. Harris hydroponics systems as well as a demonstration of how to prepare a greenhouse for winter conditions. This workshop will educate participants on the specific needs of soil-less growers when it comes to operating a system in cooler climates.

Date: Thursday, February 15th

Time: 10 am - 11:30 am

Description: This workshop will offer a tour of the P.R. Harris hydroponics greenhouses as well as a demonstration of how to prepare the soil-less system and greenhouse for spring production.

You will learn:

• The components of a hydroponics system

• What types of crops to start seeding in the Spring

• Preparations for soil-less system management as temperatures rise

March 2024: Preparing Hydroponics for Spring Growing

Date: Thursday, March 21st

Time: 10 am - 11:30 am

Description: This workshop will offer a tour of the P.R. Harris hydroponics greenhouses as well as a demonstration of how to prepare the soil-less system and greenhouse for spring production.

You will learn:

• The components of a hydroponics system

• What types of crops to start seeding in the Spring

• Preparations for soil-less system management as temperatures rise
