Join us on Wednesday, December 17 at 6:30pm to discuss Lambs in Winter: Sketches of a Vermont Life Through Seasons of Change by local author, Alexis Lathem.
Lambs in Winter emerges at the intersection of climate, social justice, and pastoral memoir. Its lyrical style and ethical depth make it a powerful fit for readers of literary nonfiction, environmental writing, and nature-centered memoir. These elegant essays invite readers into Lathem's small Vermont farm, navigating the cycles of raising sheep and hens, tending gardens, and weathering winter storms, floods, invasive species, and pests -- all with a poetic eye and a grounded moral compass. She wrestles with "living deliberately" in a landscape marked by colonial histories and ecological fragility, exploring questions of self-reliance, community interdependence, and the ethics of animal husbandry in a climate-impacted world.
Stop by the library to borrow a copy, or support your local bookstore if you'd like to purchase one. The author, Alexis Lathem, will be with us to read from the book, join in a discussion of its themes, and to sign copies.
