RATTLEMOUTH

RVA's legendary world music ensemble showcases vibrant jams from across the globe and beyond.

Rattlemouth is a genre-bending ensemble mixing punk energy with world grooves, jazz influences, and experimental musics from times and places they may or may not remember. The band draws continuous influence from folk music traditions from virtually everywhere. Appreciated for hypnotic rhythms, off-kilter melodies, and “seat-of-their-pants” improvisations, Rattlemouth performs music that is wild, intelligent, danceable, and heartfelt.

First formed by Danny Finney and Robbie Kinter in 1989 as an offshoot of Richmond institution The Ululating Mummies, Rattlemouth has gone through a series of band members and currently exists as a septet.
