Through this series, Cheza Nami aims to spark dialogue, community reflection, and an intergenerational appreciation of the power of story.Paivapo! by Cheza Nami launched its debut series with Chapter 1, featuring the incomparable Hana Baba—an award-winning Sudanese American journalist, storyteller, and cultural bridge-builder whose voice has amplified the richness of the African Diaspora across NPR, BBC, and global airwaves, and a true gem at KALW. Her presence set the tone for Paivapo!’s mission: to honor ancestral stories, elevate contemporary African narratives, and create spaces where our cultures speak, dance, drum, and breathe together.Chapter 2 deepened this journey with Dzokerayi Minya Mukome from Zimbabwe, whose storytelling and cultural insight expanded Paivapo!’s vision—bringing ancestral memory, lived experience, and diasporic reflection into powerful dialogue.Last February, Chapter 3 carried the tradition forward with master griot Salifou Malima Koné from Mali. A 67th-generation Jeli, Salifou embodied the living archive of West African oral tradition, weaving music, story, and ancestral wisdom into an unforgettable communal experience.Series 1: Chapter 4: Lulit Bezuayehu is a writer and UX ReseacrcherLulit Bezuayehu grew up in Ethiopia and moved to the U.S. to attend high school and college. She is proud of her Ethiopian heritage and loves sharing the beauty of her culture with others. Lulit believes that understanding and embracing one's roots is key to building confidence and a strong sense of identity.For over 15 years, Lulit has taught Amharic to children with Ethiopian heritage. She has created flashcards, posters, and other teaching materials to help kids connect with their culture. Lulit dreams of making Ethiopian books and learning materials accessible to everyone who wants to explore Ethiopia and learn Amharic.
