- **Event Description**: Like many of you, I have had a variety of emotions ranging from sadness and anger, to fear and anxiety, as the news and social media continue to show the unrest in our nation over the injustices that happen to the Black and POC community. This is an important time in history and I believe it is necessary to educate our children about what’s happening and provide them with the opportunity to express themselves. However, as my 10 year old daughter begged me to take her to participate in the protests I was perplexed with finding a healthy and safe way for her to be involved. A friend posted about a Mindfulness March for kids she is planning in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, and I thought this was a safe and age appropriate way for kids to allow their voices, so let’s duplicate this even in Richmond.

This event is for our CHILDREN and is aimed at creating a space for them to be mindful of the present events. The children will have an opportunity to protest injustice and racial inequality while honoring the black lives that have been lost due to police brutality.

We hope to have some members of the police department present to help bridge the divide between law enforcement and the black community.

WHEN: Sunday, June 7th 3pm-4:30pm
**We will begin gathering at 2:30pm. The March will begin promptly at 3pm.

WHERE: Chimborazo Park (In Front of the Medical Museum)

WHAT: We will gather at the park beginning at 3:00pm and march down Broad Street chanting “Marching because I Matter”. We will stop at 25th Street and protest for 9 minutes to represent the amount of time that George Floyd was pinned down by police. We will then march back to Chimborazo Park.

WHO: Children & Youth age 0-18 (Children under 16 will need an adult to participate with them. NO drop-offs are allowed).

Please feel free to make signs that convey a POSITIVE message about the need for racial equality, justice for all, and the future of our black youth. (EXAMPLES: "Marching for Justice", "Be Kind To All", "Black Lives Matter", No Justice, No Peace", "Justice For ALL")

Participants are asked to wear all black. All youth participating will receive a FREE button to commemorate the moment (While supplies last).

In light of COVID-19, it is requested that ALL attendees WEAR MASKS to comply with Governor Northam’s order.
