- **Event Description**: This weekend the 10th will be the Shire of Forth Castle's normal practice at JF Gregory Park, with an added twist! Meeting the group! Not only will this be a good time to take a gander at both heavy and rapier within the confines of the Society for Creative Anachronism, it will also be a good time to meet members of the group even if you do not wish to participate in combat activities. There are a multitude of other cool things you can participate within the group that our numerous members know quite a bit about!

In regards to the combat practices, for heavy combat, you will be able to see and participate in a reenactment of medieval armored combat. There will be ample time and opportunity to ask as many questions as you like as it pertains to safety, cost, and generally what is necessary to get started. If you would like to suit up and give it a try, you will need to wear appropriate groin protection, closed toe shoes/boots, and sign a waiver. We will have armor suitable to beginners and our safety marshal will teach basics and initial slow work.

For Rapier/Fencing, it is slightly different than what most are used to and is more in line with traditional dueling of the past. As with Heavy there will be individuals and time to ask questions of all you would like to know in order to participate. We will start by continuing our study of the 3 basic attacks in response to their cues, so if you’ve been on the edges wanting to give it a try, now is a great time!

We have loaner gear, so just wear good shoes/boots and the appropriate personal protection and we’ll take it from there (sweatpants are also recommended). Just as with heavy there will be a waiver that will need to be signed, but our marshals can walk you through it and help get you started.
