- **Event Description**: The Tumbleweed Music Festival is a free open-air community acoustic music festival sponsored by the Three Rivers Folklife Society a small 501(c)(3) community arts organization in the Tri-Cities which is traditionally held on Labor Day weekend each year. The 2025 festival will be our 29th annual! We feature many kinds of acoustic music (primarily folk blues bluegrass etc.)The festival begins Friday of Labor Day weekend with a free concert featuring higher energy and more alternative performers than many of our attendees are used to seeing. In 2024 that included our first hip-hop performance.Saturday and Sunday of that weekend from 11am to 6pm we have a new performance or workshop every 45 minutes on each of our 4 outdoor and 2 indoor stages and 2 workshop rooms. All performances and workshops are free except for the Saturday evening benefit concert and the Sunday evening Contra Dance - those are ticketed events that support the festival.Other features of Tumbleweed include the annual "Jane Titland Memorial Songwriting Contest" in which songwriters submit songs matching that year's festival theme; The Dave Oestreich Memorial Band Scramble where musicians volunteer to be part of makeshift bands; the open mic where anyone can sign up to perform; and craft and food vendors.Saturday evening's concert starts at 7 pm and features three headline acts plus the winner of the song-writing contest. The Sunday night Contra Dance starts at 8 pm with a live band and caller. (No experience necessary. The caller will give instructions.) These two ticketed events help to support the continued existence of the festival. You can get your tickets at the Info Booth during the festival.This is a family-friendly event where all ages are welcome.3RFS is a volunteer-run organization. We can always use more volunteers to help put on the festival. If interested in helping out either beforehand or during the festival, please contact us.
