He has 50 years of experience practicing meditation, 20 years teaching it, a PhD in Earth Sciences, and a deep familiarity with the research on mindfulness. Gail Johnsen of Faith Tri-Cities will answer from a primarily Christian perspective. She has over 40 years of pastoral experience, a Doctorate of Ministry, and a book titled “All There” on how attentiveness shapes authenticity. Eric Cunningham, who teaches at Gonzaga University, will answer from a primarily philosophical perspective. He has published books on Catholicism, Zen, Hermeticism, Taoism, and psychedelics. Drawing from his eclectic research, he will speculate on the nature of consciousness and the metaphysical significance of being present. Between each talk, a 10-minute intermission will feature classical instrumentals by local mother-son duo Dara and Dylan Quinn on keys and cello. Zander Adams of KNDU will emcee the evening. The Praxis Forum will take place at The Uptown Theatre on May 8th at 7:00pm, with doors opening at 6:30.
