The Nordic House 4th february, at 6pm Free entry Speaking from an Inuit perspective, Frederiksen will discuss the relationships among people, the Arctic as a shared space, and the Greenlandic language and culture as foundations of community life and knowledge systems. Her talk will provide a historical overview of processes that have affected language and culture in Greenland. Katti will also highlight current developments in literature, education, and cultural production in Greenland, and how they demonstrate creativity and vitality despite the experiences of oppression and colonisation. Finally, the talk will address the mounting challenges linked to expanding geopolitical interests and increasing external influence in the Arctic, all of which shape everyday realities and threaten the future existence of Inuit communities’ languages and cultures. 18:00-18:30 Welcome coffee and tea 18:30-19:30 Talk by Katti Frederiksen followed by Q & A from the audience Languages of the event are English, Danish, and Kalaallisut This event is produced in cooperation with the Vigdis International Centre.
