Mirror Stage: i ⇌ !

Dedicated to grandpa and grandma--林松茂 陈祝

“When I look myself in the mirror, I found myself in error.” Lindy Lin’s “Mirror Stage: i ⇌ !” is a long-term artistic exploration of gender, identity, and self-reflection through deconstruction and reconstruction. The project combines audiovisual elements, improvisation, and collaboration with female, trans, non-binary, and gender-fluid artists to challenge societal norms and the male gaze. It redefines traditional symbols like the Chinese flute “Xiao”, sewing machines, and natural elements such as water and silk, creating a space for radical reinvention.  

?The performance is structured in three chapters:  
? Exposition of “i”: A self-reflective journey emerging from mirrors. (31 March 2025, 8:00–9:30 PM)
? Recapitulation of “!” : A culmination featuring voices of female artists in Reykjavík.  (1 April 2025, 8:00–9:30 PM)
? Development of “i ⇌ !” : A month long interactive media process responding to external gazes.  (Opening: 31 March, 6:30-10:00PM; 1 April - 1 May 2025, 12:00-6:00PM)

Lindy Lin, an electroacoustic composer and audiovisual artist based in Reykjavík, blends cultural influences with natural soundscapes and everyday objects to create immersive, surreal experiences. Mirror Stage: i ⇌ !

“When I look myself in the mirror, I found myself in error.” Lindy Lin verkefnið Mirror Stage: i ⇌ ! er langtíma listræn rannsókn á kyni, sjálfsmynd og sjálfsspeglun í gegnum niðurbrot og endurbyggingu. Verkefnið sameinar hljóð- og sjónræna þætti, spuna og samvinnu við listafólk sem skilgreinir sig sem konur, trans, kynsegin og/eða kynfljótandi, til að skora á félagsleg viðmið og karlæga heimssýn. Það endurskilgreinir hefðbundin tákn eins og kínverska flautuna Xiao, saumavélar og náttúruþætti eins og vatn og silki, og skapar rými fyrir róttæka endursköpun.  

?Tónleikarnir skipast í þrjá hluta:  
?Útlistun “i”(31. mars 2025, 20:00–21:30): Sjálfsspeglandi ferð sem kemur upp úr speglum. 
?Endurtekning “!” (1. apríl 2025, 20:00–21:30): Lokapunktur sem felur í sér raddir kvenlistamanna í Reykjavík.  
?Úrvinnsla “i ⇌ !” (31. mars–1. maí 2025): Gagnvirk margmiðlun sem bregst við ytri augum.
