In Soft Shell, two inhabitants practice intimacy through intricate patterns and affective labour, looking for a voyeuristic safe haven for their soft encounters. Drawing from the aesthetics and content of ASMR videos, Soft Shell explores how and if these sensations can be evoked as bodies interact with sound and installations that play with various textures, shapes, colors and different levels of transparency. The audience is invited into a quiet, strange world where they are allowed to witness ambiguous and uncanny relations, playful unhappiness and artificial empathy. Katrín Gunnarsdóttir is an Icelandic choreographer and dancer based in Reykjavík. Her work focuses on soft encounters and embodied listening, creating intricate choreographic landscapes. She has created both solo and group works and presented multi award-winning performances in Iceland and Europe, mostly for stage but also installations in museum and site-specific contexts.
