Verið velkomin á sumarhátíð Eiríksstaða helgina 3-5. júlí 2026

Við munum rannsaka leirkeragerð íslenskra víkinga og mögulega notkun leirs. Fræðirit fullyrða að hann hafi ekki verið nýttur hérlendis til leirmunagerðar, en okkur langar að rannsaka það aðeins betur með nútíma þekkingu á jarðfræði, keramiki og fornleifafræði, þótt óvíst sé um niðurstöður. Einnig langar okkur að kanna hvort íslenskur leir hentar til annarra nota en til leirkeragerðar, þ.e. að nota hann sem byggingarefni líkt og gert var á öðrum stöðum í Evrópu á landnámsöld, en það er einnig allsendis óvíst og verður spennandi að skoða þetta allt með opnum hug og án væntinga um eina eða aðra útkomu.

Þetta verður hátíð upplifana þar sem einvala lið sérfræðinga kemur víðsvegar að úr Miðgarði. Fylgist með viðburðinum vaxa og sjáið hverjir munu koma til okkar á þessa skemmtilegu og fræðandi helgi.

Welcome to the Eiríksstaðir Summer Festival, July 3rd-5th 2026

We will investigate Icelandic Viking pottery and the possible uses of clay. Academic literature claims that it was not used in Iceland for pottery, but we would like to investigate this a little more with modern knowledge of geology, ceramics and archaeology, although the results are uncertain. We would also like to investigate whether Icelandic clay is suitable for uses other than pottery, i.e. using it as a building material like it was done in other places in Europe during the settlement era, but that is also completely uncertain and it will be exciting to look at all this with an open mind and without expectations of one outcome or another.

This will be a festival of experiences where a select team of experts will come from all over Miðgard to join us in the experiments. Follow the event and see who will join us for this fun and educational weekend.
