Við sláum hátíðlegan takt í upphafi aðventu með komu ítalska hljómsveitarstjórans og fiðluleikarans Fabio Biondi en hann er einn af þekktustu stjórnendum samtímans á sviði tónlistar frá barokk- og klassíska tímanum. Biondi stofnaði kammersveitina Europa Galante árið 1989 og hefur gefið út yfir 60 hljómdiska með þeirri virtu sveit. Hér leiðir hann Sinfóníuhljómsveit Íslands í efnisskrá sem inniheldur margar þekktar perlur úr tónbókmenntum fyrri tíma.
Einleikari tónleikanna er óbóleikarinn Julia Hantschel, en hún hefur leitt óbódeild Sinfóníuhljómsveitarinnar frá árinu 2018 og leikur hinn gullfallega óbókonsert í d-moll eftir Johann Sebastian Bach. Meðal annarra verka er stutt og tápmikil sinfónía nr. 10 sem Mozart samdi á fyrstu ferð sinni um Ítalíu, þá 14 ára gamall. Sinfónía nr. 49 eftir Joseph Haydn er á hinn bóginn verk eftir þroskaðan listamann, full af ákefð og innri hvöt.

We strike a festive chord at the beginning of Advent with the arrival of Italian conductor and violinist Fabio Biondi, one of the most renowned contemporary conductors in the field of music from the Baroque and Classical periods. Biondi founded the chamber ensemble Europa Galante in 1989 and has released over 60 albums with the prestigious ensemble. Here, he leads the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in a program that includes many well-known gems from past musical heritage.
The soloist at the concert is oboist Julia Hantschel, who has led the Symphony Orchestra's oboe section since 2018 and will play the beautiful Oboe Concerto in D minor by Johann Sebastian Bach. Other works include the short and lively Symphony no. 10, which Mozart composed on his first trip to Italy, at the age of 14. Symphony no. 49 by Joseph Haydn, on the other hand, is a work by a mature artist, full of enthusiasm and inner drive.
