Suicide Commando & Friends

In 2026 blazen de electro-iconen van Suicide Commando 40 kaarsjes uit. Om deze mijlpaal te vieren, koos frontman en bezieler Johan Van Roy, Dark Balloon Retie uit voor een exclusieve show op zaterdag 25 april 2026. Om het feest compleet te maken selecteerde hij nog vier bands die hem persoonlijk na aan het hart liggen. Het werd een mooi lijstje: Stin Scatzor, The Juggernauts, Emmon en Leæther Strip.

Ergens in 1986 begon Johan Van Roy in Leopoldsburg te experimenteren met elektronische muziek. In 1988 bracht hij zijn eerste ‘cassetje’ uit dat het tot zijn eigen verbazing schopte tot nr 9 in de Duitse charts. Sindsdien groeide Suicide Commando uit tot één van de iconen in de elektronische alternatieve scene. Tot op vandaag spelen ze in Europa, Zuid- en Noord-Amerika nog steeds alle zalen plat.

Stin Scatzor komt speciaal voor deze gelegenheid nog eens een keer bij mekaar. Kris en Stefan zijn de beste maatjes met Johan. Stefan vormt samen met de Suicide Commando-zanger het power-duo Lescure 13. Mogelijk zit er nog een L13-duet in die avond?

‘The Juggernauts’ worden aangevuurd door de alomtegenwoordige Peter Mastbooms, bekend als booker, organisator en performer in de donkere scene en al decennia in goed contact met de hoofdschotel van de avond. The Juggernauts is EBM van de bovenste Antwerpse plank die uitzonderlijk goed gedijt op de Retiese parking.

Emmon was al een keer te gast bij Dark Balloon en speelt nu ook haar derde Belgische concert op Belgische bodem in Retie. Deze sympathieke Zweedse electroqueen maakte dankzij haar vorige, album ‘Recon’ een schitterende doorstart en stond de voorbije jaren zowat op alle belangrijke, donkere podia. Een niet te missen show!

Leæther Strip is een baanbrekend Deens EBM/industrial project, opgericht in 1988 door Claus Larsen in Odense. Als enig lid schrijft, produceert en speelt Larsen alle muziek zelf, waarbij hij harde elektronische beats, donkere melodieën en confronterende teksten combineert over politiek, seksualiteit en persoonlijke strijd. Met de doorbraak-EP Japanese Bodies (1989) en albums als Solitary Confinement (1992) hielp Leæther Strip het geluid van de Europese dark electro te definiëren en beïnvloedde hij acts als VNV Nation, Hocico en Combichrist. Bekend om intense, emotioneel geladen live-optredens en een sterke DIY-mentaliteit blijft Larsen nieuwe muziek en remasters uitbrengen, waardoor Leæther Strip een blijvende kracht is binnen de internationale industrial-scene.

Suicide Commando is celebrating it’s 40th birthday in 2026. To celebrate this milestone, frontman and inspirer Johan Van Roy chose Dark Balloon Retie for an exclusive show on Saturday, April 25, 2026. To complete the party, he selected four more bands that are close to his heart personally: Stin Scatzor, The Juggernauts, Emmon and Leæther Strip.

Somewhere in 1986 Johan Van Roy started experimenting with electronic music in Leopoldsburg. In 1988 he released his first tape which, to his own surprise, made it to number 9 in the German charts. Since then, Suicide Commando has grown into one of the icons in the electronic alternative scene. To this day, they still play venues in Europe, South and North America.

Stin Scatzor rejoins again for this occasion. Kris and Stefan are the best friends with Johan. Stefan forms the power duo Lescure 13 together with the Suicide Commando singer.

'The Juggernauts' are fueled by the ubiquitous Peter Mastbooms, known as a booker, organizer and performer in the dark scene and in good contact with Johan Van Roy for decades. The Juggernauts is top notch EBM that thrives exceptionally well dark caves.

Emmon has already been a guest at Dark Balloon and is now also playing her third Belgian concert on Belgian soil in Retie. This sympathetic Swedish electro queen made a brilliant restart thanks to her previous album 'Recon' and has performed on just about all important, dark stages in recent years. A show not to be missed!

Leæther Strip is a pioneering Danish EBM/industrial project founded in 1988 by Claus Larsen in Odense, Denmark. As the sole member, Larsen writes, produces, and performs all music, blending harsh electronic beats, dark melodies, and confrontational lyrics that explore politics, sexuality, and personal struggles. Emerging with the breakout EP Japanese Bodies (1989) and albums like Solitary Confinement (1992), Leæther Strip helped define the sound of European dark electro and influenced acts such as VNV Nation, Hocico, and Combichrist.
