The curse is softened by the Lilac Fairy, Merryweather, who decrees that Aurora will be awakened by a prince's kiss. Determined to protect Aurora, the three good fairies, Flora, Fauna & Merryweather, vow to protect her, taking her deep into the forest to watch over her as she grows. Maleficent, however, is smart and lures Princess Aurora to a spinning wheel, where she pricks her finger and falls into a deep sleep.
