You will learn how to apply these tools in clinical and non-clinical settings. After completing this course, you will have fulfilled the educational requirement to obtain state certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Suport Specialist through the Nevada Certification Board.Course HighlightsIn person, July 13th through 17th, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM each day46 hours, including 40 instructor-led hours and 6 hours of independent learningCovers essential skills and knowledge focused on the four domains of peer work: Advocacy, Mentoring/Education, and Recovery/Wellness Support, and Ethical ResponsibilityCourse OverviewThis course covers the core competencies of peer support in the four domains of peer work: advocacy, mentoring and education, recovery and wellness support, and ethical responsibility. You will learn how to effectively advocate for individuals and foster self-advocacy skills, be provided with strategies to support individuals in achieving and maintining whole health and wellness, and explore the skills you need to build meaningful connections and walk alongside peers in their recovery process.PRSS Certification RequirementsThough not required to take this course, PRSS certification through the Nevada Certification Board requires NV residency, a high school diploma or quivalent, and lived experience in recovery from substance use, mental health, or problem gambling.
