Comment peut-on fleurir dans un désert de sel ? La chorégraphe Robyn Orlin radiographie les blessures de la colonisation en Afrique du Sud et leurs échos contemporains.

Robyn Orlin s’associe aux musiciens du groupe uKhoiKhoi et à la compagnie Garage Dance Ensemble, basée dans la province du Cap-Nord, une région d’Afrique du Sud qui représente à la fois l’histoire coloniale de ce pays, son humour, sa richesse, son humanité mais aussi sa cruauté. À partir du 17e siècle, la région du Cap-Nord a non seulement été délestée de ses richesses minières par les colons hollandais, mais elle a aussi été traversée par des violences sexistes et un puissant mouvement de négation de ses cultures et identités. C’est une plaie qui n’a jamais correctement cicatrisé, faute d’une réelle reconnaissance politique. 

Mais au-delà de la violence, ce spectacle flamboyant et musical, évoque avant tout la miraculeuse floraison, un vibrant hommage à la vie qui se déploie malgré un environnement hostile.
