- **Event Description**: Come learn the hula and other Polynesian dances.  The music and movements are beautiful and fun to do.

All ages and levels of ability are welcome.  Wear comfortable clothing and dance barefoot.

Instructor Sue Courington has been dancing the Hula since the mid-1980’s.  In 1993 she belonged to a group that won the second largest hula competition in the country.  Now she leads her own group, Hula O Weana I Mikikana (Mid-Michigan Hula), which consists of a group of ladies who enjoy dancing and entertaining.

In addition to expressing yourself through movement, there will be a Polynesian inspired sustainable art activity. Personal touches and expression are always encouraged in art.

About Wheatscouts: Wheatland Music Organization (501(c)(3)) children’s program was started at Wheatland in 1987 to introduce children to folk arts and traditional music in a casual, kid-friendly setting. From learning about different square & contra dances, songs, storytelling, string & percussion music instruments to crafts & activities like bookbinding, nature walks and tie-dye - we focus on finding new ways to teach the old ways.

Wheatscouts events take place the 2nd Saturday (October – May) 11 AM till 1 PM

The event includes a break with healthy snacks provided. Feel free to bring your own food if you or your child has dietary restrictions or to share with the group! Check wheatlandmusic.org or the ‘Wheatscouts – Traditional Arts & Music for Kids’ Facebook page for the latest information on our future events and scholarship funds (e.g., for lessons, instruments, craft tools, participation in camps/workshops)!
