- **Event Description**: This event was based off the vision of Joely BigEagle-Kequahtooway this is what she said when asked about this momentous and important event

"Umba wasté,

My name is Joely BigEagle-Kequahtooway and I am co-founder of Buffalo People Arts Institute, our organization has been working within the community of Regina and southern Saskatchewan since 2015. But our work truly started in 2010 with the question of what it means to be a part of the Buffalo Nation - Tatanga Oyate and how does this influence our identity as a Plains person. It has also been about ensuring ceremony was a part of sharing what we learned as we learned.

I was gifted a vision in spring of 2025 to walk down Dewdney with a backpack with buffalo skulls tied to it dragging. I consulted with trusted individuals within my circle and family regarding this vision and what it would mean potentially crossing boundaries of one ceremonial world into the hustle and bustle of city life. Hesitantly, I questioned whether it should be implemented physically. However, moving forward with the vision on Sept. 14 starting with ceremony and ending with a feast was ideally what was decided was best. The length of Dewdney Avenue is close to 30 km; however, we may or may not walk the full length depending on the number of walkers who join our efforts. We hope to raise not only the Tatanga consciousness of our community but also leave an indelible mark. To reflect on the past history of who Edgar Dewdney was and his terrible legacy and also look forward to the future as part of Tatanga Oyate.

When we speak of land acknowledgements and listen intently to what is shared during these acknowledgements it is reinforcing the belief that this is all Treaty territory and we must as First Nations and Indigenous people take it upon ourselves to act accordingly. We practice our culture daily and ensure culture not only survives but thrives. When visions are gifted - we fulfill the visions and move on, respectfully and carefully.

I am following through with the vision that was gifted to me and respecting the buffalo spirit in the land known as Pile of Bones aka Pile of Buffalo Bones. There is a history here in Regina of the connection to buffalo - but there is the history that hasn't been shared widely of how this place was the land of the buffalo and where the buffalo were, we as Indigenous Plains people also were. Reclaiming the space as our own in various ways takes many shapes and forms. This Tatanga (buffalo) skull walk is only one way. My hope is that it restores the spirit of the land to this place and reminds everyone they are on treaty land. We, as First Nations people, need to lead the way to a future where Tatanga is important and how we can build our community around what Tatanga consciousness means. It is language, ceremony, culture and spirit restored.

Men and women and 2-spirit individuals are welcome to join us. We welcome drummers, elders, Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.

It is a prayer walk. It is a contemplative, respectful walk. It is bringing together our human spirits with Tatanga walk. It is a restorative justice walk to change Dewdney to Tatanga Avenue. It is a beginning point of discussion of what the future may bring.

8:00 am Pipe Ceremony - Corner of Dewdney Ave. & Pinky Road (Zagime First Nation urban land).
8:30 am Determine who all the walkers are and where they would take up the backpack along the route.
Ideally each walker would walk 500 m - 1 km with the backpack of buffalo skulls dragging.
We need people to walk behind the walkers and capture any buffalo skull fragments that might fall off.
We need people in vehicles to drive behind walkers to follow with water, snacks or relieve walkers and replace walkers along route.
9:00 am Tatanga Skull Walk begins
Travel east down Dewdney Avenue. At Albert Street will have to go north one block to 8th Avenue and walk east till Winnipeg Street
12:00 pm Lunch at half way mark (Corner of 8th Avenue & Winnipeg Street)
12:15 pm Speakers to talk about Tatanga Oyate & History.
1:00 pm Continue Tatanga Skull Walk down Dewdney Avenue, On Winnipeg we will turn south for one block
to get back to Dewdney Avenue. Walking East until Prince of Wales Drive, wind through neighbourhood, to get to Dewdney Ave grid road.
4:00 pm Walk ends at Zagime First Nation urban land on outskirts of city in east side with buffalo feast.
