Rooting Out Risk- Cotoneaster Removal is a YCA Community Impact Project. Cotoneaster is an invasive plant species that grows across California and is currently growing in Stulsaft Park, Redwood City. By removing cotoneaster, we can reduce wildfire risk and restore natural habitats. Through collaboration with community members, this project will increase awareness about wildfires and invasive species, in addition to directly combating these issues through a hands-on habitat restoration. In addition, participants will be led on an informative nature walk detailing wildflowers in Stulsaft Park. Education is a priority, and we must mobilize our own communities to make lasting impacts that protect us from wildfires and climate change. After participating in both elements of Rooting Out Risk - Cotoneaster Removal for Wildfire Resistance, participants will have learned more about biodiversity, wildfires, wildflowers, and cotoneaster.Visit Grassroots Ecology’s Stulsaft Park page to learn more about the ecosystem and accessibility considerations.Waivers/Registration: All volunteers attending the workday must be registered individually and have approved the online waiver through this Eventbrite page.
