This is a 5 week course ending on May 22nd and run by artist and therapist Hilary Thorn.
The course offers a gentle, creative way to make space for the complicated feelings that can come with menopause. Using simple expressive art practices, you’ll learn ways to settle your nervous system, listen to what’s happening in your body, and put those feelings somewhere outside yourself — onto paper, through colour, shape and movement.
You don’t need to be “good at art.” In fact, that isn’t the point at all. The exercises are process-based and done mostly with eyes closed or gaze lowered, so you can focus on sensation rather than any finished artwork. The aim isn’t to make something impressive, but to notice, release, and understand what’s in your body.
Each session includes time to arrive, guided creative exercises, and space at the end to reflect if you wish. It’s quieter than a talking group and more active than sitting still. Many people find it brings a sense of calm, clarity, and relief — and the practices can be continued at home.
Hilary developed this work through her own experience of menopause, and understands first-hand the swings between freedom, anger, grief, confusion, and everything in between. This course offers a steady, supportive environment where nothing needs to be explained or justified. In her words, “I create safe spaces where women can explore, express and process their feelings through expressive arts practices; a bit like a Women’s Circle but with creative healing at its heart rather than talking. It’s a body based healing system, brilliant for regulating the nervous system and getting feelings out of the body and onto the page. Anyone can do it, and once learnt the exercises can also be done at home.”
