- **Event Description**: Purnakala School of Indian Art is delighted to bring in-person traditional Indian art workshops to the Seattle community! Join us for a series of monthly workshops, each showcasing an iconic art form from India. In each workshop you will create a "masterpiece" to take home while learning tips and tricks specific to the art forms and mediums used. 

In the first module, from Sept 2025 to Jan 2026, we will be exploring Classical Painting Traditions of Southern India.

January 2026: Kalamkari Painting Workshop

In January, come learn about Kalamkari painting, a traditional textile art form from the state of Andhra Pradesh, India.

In this workshop, we will delve into the traditional process of creating Kalamkari on textiles and learn how to thoughtfully translate it onto canvas using modern mediums. We will discuss the two distinctive styles of Kalamkari—Sreekalahasti and Machilipatnam—understand their unique motifs and draw inspiration from both to create a harmonious Kalamkari composition.

Create and take home a beautiful painting of Annapakshi (8 × 10-inch, acrylic on canvas).

Workshop Details: 

Date: ​ Saturday, January 10, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM (PST)

​Venue: ​Redmond Senior and Community Center 

Address: 8703 160th Ave NE, Redmond, WA 98052

Fee: $85 (Fee Includes all materials for in-class use. It also includes the new sales tax levied by WA state since Oct 1st 2025 for live presentations.)

Who can attend?
​Adults of all skill levels are welcome. Come create in a friendly community setting. No drawing or painting background required. Step-by-step instructions will be provided.

Limited seats! Registration must be completed online in advance using the registration link above (under Tickets).
