An Evening of Poetry, Story, and Sound

Join us for an intimate evening with three powerful writers whose work moves across borders, languages, memory, and lived experience.
This special reading brings together voices shaped by loss, desert landscapes, bilingual imagination, migration, music, and contemporary literary craft.

✍️ Featured Writers

Gabriella Garcia is a writer from the Sonoran Desert. Her chamber opera A Spring Like This, a collaboration with composer Nehemiah Jones, was developed and performed in 2025 with the support of the Seattle Opera’s Jane Lang Davis Creation Lab. She is a graduate of Wellesley College and lives in Seattle, WA, where she teaches poetry, sings, and takes long walks with a camera in hand.

Alejandro Pérez-Cortés is a Mexican poet and writer whose work has been published since 1996 in his home state of Colima, Mexico. His writing has appeared in multiple anthologies, including Soundings from the Salish Sea (2018). His bilingual manuscript Ima and Coli are the tree that was never a seed won the 2021 Octavio Paz Poetry Prize organized by the National Poetry Series and Miami Book Fair. In 2024, his poem “Alejandra Pizarnik and her 4 sister dolls” won first place in a poetry contest hosted by DePaul University and Contratiempo in Chicago. His next poetry collection will be published by Colibrí Publishing in 2026. He currently teaches Spanish in Washington State.

Sayantani Roy has placed work in several journals including Emerge Literary Journal, Grist (forthcoming), MAYDAY, TIMBER, West Trestle Review, and Wordgathering. She is an MFA candidate at the Rainier Writing Workshop, and her work has been supported by AWP.

Expect an evening of readings that move between lyric intensity and narrative depth: work that explores identity, language, place, and the layered textures of experience.

This event is presented in partnership with Jack Straw Cultural Center as part of their ongoing commitment to supporting writers and literary community.
