The mightiness of Medicine Buddha lies in his twelve great vows. One of these vows is to treat the eighty four thousand illnesses of sentient beings by using eighty four thousand medicines so that sentient beings who are sick will have the karma causing the sickness totally eradicated.

Despite his name and association with healing sickness, his vows don't end there. Others include "upon my enlightenment, may I enable all beings to gain an abundance of things most useful and enjoyable, eliminating all scarcity or want. This I will accomplish through boundless wisdom and skilful means beyond measure". Hence Medicine Buddha is able to help those who suffer from financial challenges or insufficiency of resources.

Other vows include the ability to help people succeed in their endeavours according to their intentions, helping those who are following an evil path in life to awaken their heart of bodhi and enter the correct path, restoring the purity of those who have broken precepts, granting shelter to the homeless, making families close and supportive, assisting women to attain full Buddhahood in this lifetime, aiding those suffering legal entanglements or political suppression, those who suffer insult, humiliation, or anxiety and many more. 

Truly his vows are vast! To Medicine Buddha, all forms of suffering are things he brings healing to, not just physical illness, so everyone can benefit deeply from this truly awe-inspiring Tathagatha who joined True Buddha School as one of our eight principle deities. All are welcome to participate, whether you have the specific Medicine Buddha empowerment or not (this requirement is waived for group practice with Grandmaster).
