Socratic Society Week 8 Discussion: Do Numbers Exist?

Are numbers real features of the universe, or are they human inventions used to describe patterns? Plato argued that mathematical objects exist independently in an abstract realm, while Aristotle held that numbers exist only insofar as they describe real things. Others claim numbers are simply linguistic or conceptual tools.
