About the event

Court of Conscience Issue 19 Launch
Court of Conscience is having a launch event for itโ€™s 19th Issue and weโ€™d love for you to be there !!!

> What is Court of Conscience?

Court of Conscience is a peer-reviewed, social-justice-focussed, academic journal published annually by the UNSW Law Society. It is run by an entirely student-led editorial team, and consistently attracted submissions from High Court Justices, notable academics, community leaders, legal practitioners, policy advocates and law students alike.

The journal has been named the Australian Law Studentsโ€™ Associationโ€™s โ€˜Best Equity Publicationโ€™ (2012โ€“2016, 2019โ€“2021, 2023โ€“2024) and has received the Associationโ€™s Advocacy Award (2024).

> What is this yearโ€™s issue about?

The theme for this yearโ€™s Issue is 'Beyond the Ivory Tower: Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice', which critically examines areas where there is a disconnect between legal theory and the operation of the law.

The issue features an article by Chief Justice French, alongside submissions from notable academics (such as Helen Gibbon, Jill Hunter and Mark Giancaspro) and leading legal educators (such as Dean of UWS Law School Catherine Renshaw).

> What can I expect at the launch?

Professor Justine Nolan will deliver a keynote address on the theme. Professor Nolan is the Director of the Australian Human Rights Institute, and an internationally recognised expert in modern slavery and human rights issues in business. Professor Nolan is a key driver of the Australian and global business and human rights movement, and has advised businesses, civil society, governments and the UN on human rights issues for over 25 years.

You will also receive a hard-copy of this yearโ€™s issue !!!
