About the event

Understanding Family Culture and Advocacy
A FREE Training for Families Navigating Disability Services

About this Event

Join us for a free, 2-hour introductory session designed for families who are curious about services but may not currently be accessing them. This session will explore how cultural values and past experiences can impact family engagement with support systems. You’ll also get a preview of the upcoming October training series, featuring hands-on exercises, social-emotional learning, and stories from family partners.

Every family's blend of traditions and values guides how we seek, experience, and advocate for disability services. Together we will discuss how culture can open doors - or create hurdles - when systems don't fully "get" your needs. We will pinpoint what matters most to your family and equip you with clear tools to voice those needs and navigate the regional center with confidence.

This interactive, two-hour session will help you:

  • Connect with other families who "get it"
  • Explore how culture shapes your service experience
  • Practice advocacy skills you can use right away
  • Communicate your needs clearly to service providers

This training is offered by Compass, funded through a Far Northern Regional Center (FNRC) grant.
