This talk is for the Cleveland Retired Men’s Association (CRMA) meeting in Redcar. In April 2018, after the folk trio The Young'uns performed The Ballad of Johnny Longstaff at Stockton's Arc Theatre, John Christie was inspired to create a lasting memorial, in his home town, to the Volunteers for Liberty who were born in Stockton-on-Tees. I sing of my comrades was produced to support this iniative. This talk aims to tell the stories and highlight the experiences of the eight men, from Stockton and Thornaby, who served in the XV international Brigade in Spain.
