- **Event Description**: The Flyathlon is a multi-sport event that integrates three activities: trail running, fishing, and craft beer.About this EventThe Flyathlon is a multi-sport event that integrates three activities: trail running, fishing, and craft beer. While many enjoy these activities independently, we have found over the years that putting them together is even more enjoyable. The overwhelming majority of funds raised by our Flyathletes through this event will be used for freshwater ecosystems. The Flyathlon is designed to be largely inclusive rather than truly competitive. The Flyathlon seeks to break down barriers through accessible events that create positive and fishy outdoor experiences and memories. It is our hope that through this type of exposure, we can create new outdoor advocates. The Flyathlon is designed specifically to promote responsible fishing practices and trail habits.Join us on September 12th, 2026, for our first annual Flyathlon, a unique multi-sport event combining trail running, fishing and craft beer in Red Deer, Alberta. The race will start at Canada 150 Square, looping around Kiwanis Picnic Park and back towards Canada 150 Square/Troubled Monk. Finishers and spectators will finish at the Troubled Monk, a local full craft beverage company. Total route distance is 5km.Flyathletes will run with their rods and gear along the trail and decide when to stop to cast and hopefully catch a fish! Be sure to record species and estimated size for a chance to win prizes! Once you have successfully caught and released your fish and completed the route, you will finish the race with a nice, cold beverage.Never fished before? No worries! Helpful "fish whisperers" volunteers will be available along the route to help you out. The race will begin at 1 pm MT.
