In “The PA German Organ Builders – How Do the Dieffenbachs Fit In?” Cooper will trace the history of Pennsylvania German organ building, beginning with the influential work of David Tannenberg. The program will then examine the artisans who followed in his footsteps, including John Jacob Dieffenbach and his son Christian, whose instruments carried forward the Tannenberg tradition.

About the Speaker:

Philip T. D. Cooper, a Maryland native, is a scholar and performer specializing in 17th- and 18th-century keyboard repertoire, with a focus on the Central German Organ School and the works of Johann Pachelbel and his students. Over the past two decades, he has extensively researched and documented Pennsylvania German organs, performing recitals on many of these historic instruments and consulting on their restoration. His lectures and performances have been featured at numerous symposiums and conventions, and his recordings have aired nationally on Minnesota Public Radio. Cooper is also the creator of a comprehensive online resource devoted to David Tannenberg and his followers.
