Reading Haydn Choir – Open Rehearsal – 15 January 2026
Members of the public with an interest in choral singing are warmly invited to attend an open rehearsal and experience what it’s like to sing with the Reading Haydn Choir...and perhaps consider joining us :)
Founded in 1970, the Reading Haydn Choir is a mixed SATB choir with around 60 members. We share a commitment to high musical standards while maintaining a friendly, supportive atmosphere.
We aim for excellence in all our performances, most of which feature professional instrumentalists and soloists. Each year we typically give three or four concerts in the Reading area, performing a broad repertoire that includes classical and contemporary liturgical works, jazz, folk and popular music, as well as an annual program of Christmas carols.
From time to time, we hold Open Rehearsals, giving singers the chance to join one of our regular Thursday evening rehearsals free of charge. Visitors sing alongside the choir, observe how rehearsals are run, and enjoy refreshments while chatting with choir members, helping them decide whether the choir is right for them.
Our next Open Rehearsal will take place on Thursday 15 January at 7.45 pm (please arrive 15 minutes early). We will be rehearsing Hummel’s Mass in B flat, Handel’s Utrecht Te Deum, and Monteverdi’s Beatus Vir, all of which will be performed at our Spring Concert on Saturday 14 March.
The rehearsal will be held at our usual venue: St Joseph’s College, Upper Redlands Road, Reading RG1 5JT.
If you don’t have copies of the music, don’t worry — we can provide scores for the Open Rehearsal if you let us know in advance.
