- **Event Description**: As part of this year’s Earth Day Celebration, the Park & Shade Tree Commission Bird Box Sub-Committee is partnering with local birder Lucy Cairns to host a peaceful and engaging Bird Sit Activity on Saturday morning, April 25th from 8:00–10:00 AM.

A Bird Sit is a mindful nature practice that involves sitting quietly to observe, listen, and connect with local birdlife. Unlike a bird walk, this stationary approach allows birds to grow comfortable with your presence, making it easier to witness natural behaviors, songs, and interactions. It’s a relaxing and rewarding way to sharpen birding skills while enjoying the outdoors.

Participants will meet at the gravel parking lot off Old Mill Road, across from the Wyomissing Pool. The lot will be closed to vehicles so attendees can use the elevated area as a comfortable viewing location overlooking the beautiful Wet Meadow habitat. Parking will be available along Old Mill Road. Arriving early is encouraged so you can settle in and claim a good viewing spot.

This program welcomes both beginner and experienced birders alike and serves as a wonderful introduction to birding by ear. Participants will have the opportunity to observe birds with or without binoculars and are encouraged to bring cameras to capture the experience.

Birds known to nest in the Wet Meadow include Eastern Bluebirds, Tree Swallows, Red-winged Blackbirds, Song Sparrows, and House Wrens. Late April is also a prime time to spot returning migrants such as Baltimore Orioles, Orchard Orioles, and the Warbling Vireo, along with many other species.

Participants are encouraged to bring a fold-up lawn chair or blanket to sit on.
