The House on Haunted Hill tells the twisted tale of millionaire Frederick Lauren and his fourth wife Annabelle, who throw a party for five guests, each of whom will receive fifty thousand dollars if they stay overnight in a supposedly haunted house. Filled with double crosses, jilted lovers, a wicked sense of humor, and a ghostly spirit or two or three, The House On Haunted Hill proves to be a night you’ll soon not forget.
CHARACTER LIST
Frederick Lauren – Male Identifying 50+. Debonair. Wealthy. The millionaire host of the party. Devilishly charming but seething with jealousy and mistrust barely contained behind a thin layer of showmanship and dry gallows humor. The life (and death) of the party.
Annabelle Lauren – Female Identifying 40+. Frederick Loren’s beautiful fourth wife, Annabelle, is as deceitful as she is lustful. She's grown tired of her husband's jealous nature and is now playing a very dangerous game. Sleek. Opinionated. A waspy, femme fatale of sorts.
Nina Meers – Female Identifying 20+. Mousy and timid, but cleverer than she realizes. Young and pretty with a shy and sensitive expression but underneath this shyness is an outgoing personality.
Lance Schroeder – Male Identifying 30+. Relies more on his looks than his intelligence. A bit of a womanizer. The handsome, all-American daredevil test pilot. He’s a self-made hero and very sure of himself.
Ruth Bridges – Female Identifying 40+. An older socialite and former newspaper columnist who is given to vices such as drinking and gambling. When things are quiet, she returns to her private hell. Think a young Bea Arthur crossed with Hedda Hopper.
Dr. David Trent – Male Identifying 40+. Intelligent but with an air of superiority. A psychiatrist with a keen interest in hysteria. He is a rational man of science. He's clinically detached but may be all too ready to make anything and everything about his field of expertise. He also plays a very dangerous game.
Watson Pritchard – Male Identifying 30+ The current owner of the house. He is a short, nervous, sweaty man. He knows the whole gruesome history of the house. Unfortunately for everyone present, he keeps talking about it. He also drinks to excess. Moody. Aloof. But not without a sense of humor.
Cassidy Bowman – Female Identifying 20+. Graced with a warm disposition and kind eyes. Secretary and love interest of Frederick.
Rebecca Valifax/The Bride (Physical role)– Female Indentifying. Ageless. The madam of the house. This role is the Ghostly Voice throughout the play.
Louis Slides/Byron Valifax (Physical role) – Male Identifying 60+. The caretaker of the House. Large and menacing. Walks with a limp. Think Lurch. Should have good comedic timing. Even though there are minimal lines, this character appears in the show quite often and is an integral part of the production. This role will set the precedence for “creepiness” at the beginning of each performance and will assist with the haunted happenings throughout the show, i.e., books fall from bookcase, pictures fall, etc.
Eleanor Slides (Physical role)– Female Identifying 60+. The caretaker’s wife. Old and haggard. Also walks with a limp. Think Carol Kane.
