- **Event Description**: Northern Stars Planetarium will bring their telescopes to the Readfield Fairgrounds and share the wonders of space with us! John Meader, of Northern Stars, has an 8” Celestron telescope that he will keep on interesting objects such as visible planets, galaxies, star clusters, and nebulae. He will also bring along several smaller telescopes for participants to try out, with instruction. Come observe some amazing night sky wonders with us! 

This Star Party is hosted by the Readfield Community Library and Readfield Recreation Association and made possible by the generosity of 2 local donors. It will be held at the Readfield Fairgrounds ballfield at 65 Church Road, Readfield on Wednesday, November 19 from 5:30-7:00pm. If bad weather, we will need to reschedule.

Registration is requested, so that we may have enough pizza and hot cocoa for participants. Please contact the Library to let us know you will attend the Star Party (and how many) at librarian@readfieldmaine.org, 207-685-4089, or send a message via Facebook or Instagram.

Important Event Notes:
-dress for the weather (we will be mostly standing around, so wear many layers!!)
-bring your own water; binoculars if have them 
-if possible, please bring a red light flashlight (instead of white light) for fewer negative effects on night vision
-pizza and hot cocoa will be provided for all participants at our Star Party
-no bathrooms at the Fairgrounds…but, bathrooms at the Library are available (a 1-minute drive) at 1151 Main Street

If you have binoculars, please bring them and feel free to stay for an extra half hour “Binocular Sky Exploration” following the Star Party. John will lead the group through a binocular tour of sky objects using the “star hopping” method. Participants may see planets, binary stars, nebulae, star clusters, and galaxies, as well as the Milky Way up close and personal!
